Simon Bonwick owner of The Crown in Burchetts Green, Berkshire. Andy Hayler put me on to Simon as he referred to The Crown as probably one of the best restaurants in the UK outside of London.

We talk about his journey and how he had his Napoleon moment and lost two pubs, but he didn’t go bankrupt he knuckled down and paid everyone off. He then worked as a private chef and then fell in love with the crown in Burchetts Green.

Simon is the only chef in the kitchen, and the front of house is his son, many would argue it is unsustainable to do this but the restaurant is thriving and now has one Michelin star, 3 AA Rosettes, 13/50 best gastropubs in the UK, Waitrose good food guide best pub, and many many more that I have no doubt forgotten to mention.
